alive bride

When we got engaged in August 2011, I will admit that I was really excited about the idea of planning a wedding.  I knew that with all the amazing resources St. Louis had to offer, I could find the perfect dress, venue, florist, baker, photographer, and calligrapher right at home.  (And yes, you need a lot of people to put together a wedding).

The trouble was where to find them.  The internet and Pinterest are both wonderful resources for ideas, but when you consider the amount of time you'll spend with the people arranging your flowers, it becomes apparent that you will need to meet them in person before signing the paperwork.  Wedding showcases are the perfect place to see everyone you need.

The good wedding showcases are held in beautiful event spaces, where attending feels like you're going to a party.  I still love wedding details - I hope to help some of my friends plan the perfect wedding in the coming years.  Even though I'm already married, I'm going to Alive Bride on January 16th.  The event will showcase all of the best wedding vendors in the city of St. Louis, and even if you don't plan to get married in the area you should still come check it out!  We got married in Mt. Vernon, IL, our hometown 90 miles outside of STL, and all my lovely vendors were willing to travel that far - some would go as far as 3 hours away.

To help convince you, I've teamed up with Alive Magazine to get readers of Light Sleeper, Heavy Dreamer the chance to win two free VIP tickets to the event.  VIPs will receive specialty cocktail sampling and appetizers, as well as an amazing gift bag.  You can enter to win the tickets below!

If you don't win, you can still use the code DREAMER50 to get half off a VIP ticket - making it the same price as general admission.

photobooth fun

No wedding pics yet, but we do have a few of the best shots from the photobooth our photographer set up!  These are my favorites of my groom and I, with lots of our friends and showcasing our new gold bands.

a letter from the white house...

If you follow any wedding-minded folks on Pinterest, you've probably seen this photo floating around your follow page:

The post leads to a little story here about how if you send an invitation to the President and First Lady 6 weeks before your wedding date, you will receive a congratulatory letter back from them.  We are getting married this Saturday the 20th (crazy soon and yes I am a little frazzled at the moment!)
I know this might seem like a silly thing to waste an invitation on, but I really wanted to get to see the White House stationary - I'm such a dork for those sorts of things - and I just thought it was cool!

Sure enough, today our note arrived, almost too pretty to open (the beauty of this stationary is a lot in how quality it is, kinda hard to see in my amateur photos):

I don't have any grand ideas about those signatures being real or anything, but I just had to do a little write up about this to show that sometimes fancy, serious places do neat things just for fun.  And if getting a personal letter from the White House wouldn't put a smile on your face I don't know what would - regardless of who you're voting for!  Such a neat little thing.

bringing the forest indoors

I am not one of those girls that is so obsessed with being married in the great outdoors. What I am obsessed with is having a plan, so wondering "what if it rains?" for over a year wasn't really my idea of a great wedding planning scenario. The bulk of our wedding day will be indoors. Still, I wanted the room to feel intimate and romantic, dreamy in the way an outdoor wedding would be without any of the complications, so when I started finding pictures of this branch decor I was instantly inspired. My main decor plan for the night is to bring in tons of bare trees and branches and drape them with twinkling lights and votives. Aren't these pictures gorgeous?
