date night: ruth's chris downtown st louis

Last week, I mentioned how Darrell & I had our first night out since having Claire.  We went to see one of our favorite local musicians play at Beale on Broadway downtown, and although it was a great evening, it was perhaps a little ambitious.  Staying up until 1 am when you have a newborn?  Kind of difficult.  More difficult?  Waking up with said newborn only an hour after going to sleep.  For our next outing, we needed something more our current speed, so when Alive Magazine invited us to attend a dinner showcasing Ruth's Chris new menu we jumped at the chance.

I wore heels for the first time in what felt like forever, and carried a purse that doesn't have stroller straps!

(dress by sonnet james, here)

Despite our excitement, I was a teeny bit apprehensive about going to a steakhouse.  I'm a pescatarian, and I kind of figured that we'd end up making a run through Chipotle after dinner so that I could get a real meal.  Though after one of the complimentary cocktails I had when we arrived, I had pretty much forgotten about food altogether.

Just kidding, but that drink was really delicious.  (Get the blood orange sunrise!)  They had a ridiculous spread of appetizers for us, and I really should've tried harder to get more of this ahi tuna.  One piece was not enough, I could just eat this for my meal the next time we go, and I probably will.

I needn't have ever worried about not having enough to eat, the food was AMAZING.  This was Darrell's salad, but they brought me one without the bacon.  I certainly didn't miss it, I'm a total sucker for a classic wedge salad.

The dining room's view really can't be beat.  I never get tired of looking at the Arch!

One mention of my dietary preferences, and they brought me a special dish.  This was pasta with an olive oil sauce, broccoli, and peppers, and it was beyond yummy.

I was pretty motivated to save room for dessert, and thank goodness I did because this was unreal.  I would like to drink a glass of that Creme Anglaise every single day.

Perhaps the biggest accomplishment of the night?  We didn't call our sitters (Darrell's brother & his girlfriend) for updates a single time, trusting that the baby was in good hands.  We had a perfect & romantic evening, even staying for one last drink at the bar before we left, and Claire had slightly more relaxed and happy parents to show for it.

I can't say that I would have previously considered Ruth's Chris as a downtown St. Louis destination, but we'll definitely be back for pre-dinner or concert drinks sometime soon, especially to take advantage of their awesome Happy Hour prices.

Need a date night of your own?  Ruth's Chris is giving away a Prix Fixe dinner for 4 through Alive Magazine here, to celebrate their downtown location's 5 year birthday!

stl fashion week/style in the loop

Say hello to my husband, smiling at a fashion show.  Never thought you'd see the day?

Well truth be told, Style In the Loop was so fun, it wasn't hard to keep him grinning.  Also, there may have been beer.

Darrell was pretty into playing photographer all day, and snapped these awesome pics of some U City Loop landmarks.  The statue is Chuck Berry, a St. Louis native, and his restaurant of choice, Blueberry Hill.  He still plays shows there in the "Duck Room" venue, from time to time.

I'm a bad blogger and didn't take any outfit pics, but Darrell got sneaky while I was chatting with some friends we ran into!

I wore: wedges-steve madden, suede shorts-forever 21, tee-anthropologie, hat-asos, bag-billabong.

This cute puppy was in the Project Runway show Saturday night, so now he's an STL Fashion week celebrity.

We were lucky enough to see looks from some of St. Louis' most talented designers.  Check out their STL fashion week profiles here!

I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's events.
If you haven't yet, make sure to get your tickets to Project Design: STL's Emerging Designer Contest!

kicking off stlfw

First of all, I just want to say that I totally understand that for most of you, these posts about St. Louis Fashion Week could stay or go.  SO.  My promise to you is that I will continue to post about universal subjects just as often this coming week, and then there will be some additional posts about St. Louis Fashion Week sprinkled in!

First things first - we headed off to 13th & Washington to do a little promotion for all the big STL Fashion Week events.  This was, of course, made a little more fun by our sponsor Skinnygirl (hey thanks Bethenny!) We sent out invites, chatted, and exchanged Instagram & Twitter follows. I was probably excited to a silly level at getting to take home a few hair ties like these from Daisy Clover Boutique.  They make the absolute bounciest pony tails, and they had the best patterns.

Also, have you gotten your tickets yet?  Come on, get on it!  You can get them here.

Then, we headed over to Urban Chestnut Brewery, where we just got one beer and hung out for a bit before our next stop.  This is my adorable friend Joanna - she must've gotten 5 comments last night about that hat reminding people of Breaking Bad.  I'm in a race to finish the whole thing soon since EVERYONE is talking about it, and I'm tired of being on spoiler-watch!

Then on to the big event - the Fashion Soiree @ Palladium.  This was a fashion show for a lot of the local St. Louis boutiques, and I was generously given tickets by the stylist of the show.

The event space was REALLY gorgeous - honestly, my expectations were blown away.

Before the show we snapped a few pics of my outfit, and I scoped out the best place to catch show.  We didn't have seats, but luckily spotted my friend Sutton who cast the models for the show, and nabbed two next to her.

It was really fun and we had a great time watching the show.  It definitely inspired me to check out more local shops - I'm such an internet shopping freak, but now I'll have to pop around to Paisley Boutique & Esther.  The clothes were gorgeous.

More to come, I'm attending a show it seems every day until next weekend, and if last night was any indication it is going to be a fun & exciting week in St. Louis!

my outfit details, if you care: top-francescas, skirt-express, jacket-banana republic, shoes-forever 21
